Officine Alfieri Maserati was founded on December 1, 1914 in Bologna, Italy. Since then, Maserati has played a consistently important role in the history of sports car culture and its development.
Nearly a century of activity has brought with it moments of glory on the road and the track as well as more difficult times, which have helped forge the company’s character and personality. These include the 246.029 km/h world speed record set by Borzacchini in 1929, the 1957 F1 World Championship title won by Fangio aboard the 250F, and the more recent launch of the new 390 bhp Coupé Cambiocorsa in Detroit in January 2002, which marked Maserati’s return to the US market. However, Maserati’s history involves more than its glorious sporting achievements and the launch of great road cars. The company has also developed industrially over the years. Its relocation from Bologna to the current site in Viale Ciro Menotti, Modena, in 1940 and its acquisition by Ferrari, completed in 1997, are but two examples of the many major events in the development of Maserati’s expansion strategies and the launch of its new cars. In early 2005, ownership of Maserati was transferred from Ferrari to Fiat, which allowed the two marques to achieve important industrial and commercial synergies. Maserati is a marque that began life in a local context but then went on to become a major international concern, with representatives in 45 countries. In this section, you can relive the Trident company's enthralling history and get to know the people, achievements and cars which have made the marque famous.

Carrozzeria Campana Italy - can boast a fifty years successfull activity in the field. Established in 1947, it has grown and expanded to cover 6000 sq/mt divided in several functional structures.
The company can adorn itself with special agreements for which it is Maserati and Alfa Romeo authorized body repair shop and holder of all the mechanical and body spare parts for Maserati cars from 1959 to 1983.
Since its beginning Carrozzeria Campana, one of the oldest car body repair centres in and around Modena, has been characterized by a tradition of enjoyment in its work and the utmost quality. The company was established back in 1947, thanks to Onorio and Erasmo Campana, who had just left the pioneering "Bacchelli e Bertolini" centre.
Over the years the headquarters have moved four times due to steady expansion and modernization. Collaborations Campana was distinguished from the onset by famous collaborations, such as car body manufacturing for stanguellini, fiat, Ferrari (the first 166), Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Campana's work on the De Tomaso "Pantera" was influential in the development of its business. In the 70's, Maserati and De Tomaso entrusted Carrozzeria Campana with the full development of several models.
Today Onorio' sons, Luigi and Franco, now continue the company's success story: Carrozzeria Campana can boast strong business relations with the new maserati management and the confidence of prestigious italian firms.

Bill McGrath Maserati UK - It was the discovery in 1973 of a forlorn Maserati 3500GTI that was to change the course of Bill McGrath’s life. Following an upbringing in Southern Ireland and numerous jobs in the motor industry in the UK, Bill had settled down and for years had been managing a modern garage in Hertfordshire. On the insistence of his wife, he took a trip to a local builders yard and there lay the 3500GTI.
At the time, Bill knew nothing of these cars, but the lure of the trident was strong and with the exchange of £500 (!), Bill became the owner of the car that started it all. Although frustrated by the lack of information or parts available in the UK for this car, Bill set to rebuilding the straight six engine (a holed piston had taken it off the road) and once more back to health, the car provided family transport for years to come.
Through connections with the UK Maserati Club, Bill learnt of other owners of these cars who had similar problems with the cars and who did not benefit from Bill’s vast engineering experience. They began to look to him for advice. In 1976, Bill took the plunge and formed Bill McGrath Maserati. In those early days, the company was sometimes only a one-man band working from a farm barn in Redbourn.
However, a fastidious restoration of a Maserati A6G 2000 Frua Spyder for John Duggleby created a lot of media attention (the car was featured on the cover of Thoroughbred and Classic Car in 1980) and as the reputation for inspired engineering and honest service on Maserati road cars spread, the company slowly but surely expanded until in 1984, a move to a modern industrial unit in the village of Kimpton set things on a sound footing. |
